Way of Therapy is working with the Sharif Trust in Pakistan to help build the Oasis School, Lahore, for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), the first specialist school for children with Autism in Pakistan. |
||
A recent report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has shown that Autism affects about 1 in 110 children. Every child with Autism is different and, in collaboration with centres in the U.K., the Oasis School is developing individual teaching and therapy programmes for effective management and development of every child's potential within the school. With an initial two class intake at Reception and year one level (5 years old) in 2010, Oasis School is designed to provide schooling for children from 5 to 11 years old with one class intake per year. The school is being constructed in two stages - the first stage ( soon to be completed in early 2010) will see five class rooms built in addition to therapy and activity rooms. Particular functional and perceptual requirements for children with Autism are have been incorporated into the architects plan, to ensure that this flagship school has 'state of the art' design and equipment. The second stage of the build will double the capacity of the school. Any functional and design improvements observed during the first years of working in the school, will be included in the design of the second stage. |
